    Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to our symposium titled "The Micro Dynamics of Social Network: Formation, Evolution, and Consequences". This event will take place on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM ET (GMT-4/UTC-4) at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Back Bay Ballroom A.

This symposium aims to delve into the intricate connection between micro-level processes and macro-level phenomena in social networks. We will focus on understanding the individual factors that contribute to the formation of social connections, the influence of formal organizational structures on social interactions, and how individuals and organizations can benefit from being part of a network.

Our discussant will be Ronald S. Burt from Bocconi University and the University of Chicago. The symposium will feature four papers, three of which employ a mixed-method approach and one that uses a qualitative, inductive study.

Here are the papers and authors:

"Putting Work Back into Networking: How Unembedded Entrepreneurs Navigate Networking Arenas" by Rand Gerges Yammine (ESCP Business School), Anne L.J. Ter Wal (Imperial College Business School), and Namrata Malhotra (Imperial College London).

"His and Hers Gratitude: The Role of Gender in Shaping Gratitude and Collaboration Networks" by Evelyn Y. Zhang (Frankfurt School), Wu Liu (Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Xiaofei Hu (Hong Kong Polytechnic University), and Xinwen Bai (Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences).

"Need for Closure, (In)Formal Structures, and Individual Performance" by Alessandro Iorio (Bocconi University), Manuel David Gomez-Solorzano (Tilburg School of Economics and Management, Tilburg University), and Giuseppe Soda (Bocconi University).

"The Contaminating Effect of Social Capital: Upper-Class Networks Increase Unethical Behavior" by Siyu Yu (University of Michigan), Jiyin Cao (Stony Brook University, State University of New York), and Aharon Cohen Mohliver (London Business School).

We look forward to seeing you there. Please mark your calendars!

    Best,

    Evelyn Zhang
